These beautiful dog tags date back to the late 1890’s to early 1900’s and were made in the USA. Shaped like a trapezoid shield with 3 blank diagonal lines for stamping or engraving. Made out of nickel-silver also called German silver. Nickel silver is stronger and more expensive than brass. And, it doesn’t tarnish as much as brass. Back then manufacturers chose nickel-silver over brass for higher quality items like these dog collar tags. These look gorgeous and resemble sterling silver. What a perfect way to adorn your favorite pet with a collectible antique! These are NOT reproductions or “like” or “style of” or a “retro”. They were part of an enormous Dallas locksmith collection with items dating back to the Civil War era.
